Kansai Yamamoto swoje maksymalistyczne, przesycone żywymi zdobieniami sylwetki opiera na ojczystej sztuce i teatralnej kostiumografii. Swoją estetykę przyrównuje do świątyni Toshogu w Nikko, w prefekturze Tochigi, która w swojej barwnej i wizualnie sycącej architekturze stanowi przeciwieństwo utartym preferencjom Japonii. Tym samym, wizjoner odkrywa przed zachodnim widzem alternatywne doświadczenie Kraju Wschodzącego Słońca.
