Odniesienie do patchworkowego języka wizualnego, zastosowanego przez Rubchinskiego w kolaboracji z Levi’s, sięga znacznie dalej niż eksperyment z kolorem czy fakturą – to komentarz osadzony w praktyce, która przez dziesięciolecia stanowiła fundament estetyki niedoboru. W realiach postsowieckiej codzienności, gdzie dostęp do zachodnich dóbr bywał ograniczony, a oryginalny Levi’s krążył w obiegu niemal kontrabandowym, łatanie i przekształcanie odzieży nie tylko spełniało funkcję praktyczną – stawało się gestem emancypacyjnym, próbą wpisania się w globalny kod stylu mimo barier geopolitycznych i ekonomicznych. Rubchinskiy, świadomy dziedzic tej szkoły improwizacji, nie rekonstruuje jej dosłownie. Dekonstruuje raczej samą pamięć o niej, odsłaniając proces formowania tożsamości na marginesach kultury dominującej. Przeszycia i zmiany tonacji denimu wybrzmiewają jak dialekty – ślady lokalnych adaptacji wielkiej narracji Zachodu, które w postsowieckim kontekście zyskiwały znaczenie oporu wobec uniformizacji i narzuconej estetyki. Nie chodzi o styl w sensie powierzchniowym, lecz o pamięć materiału – nawarstwioną, świadomie niedopowiedzianą, zakorzenioną w praktyce codziennego oporu, która dziś zostaje przepisana na język mody kolekcjonerskiej.
